Easy + Modern Crochet Blanket Pattern

My favorite crochet patterns have clean lines, neutral colors, and simple stitches. The Bradley Afghan ticks all of those boxes! This fun and fast chunky modern crochet blanket is a great choice for last-minute gifts or just to add some geometric flair to your living room decor.

The Bradley Afghan only uses a few basic stitches – single crochet, the chain stitch, and a few simple increases and decreases. This combination makes for a project that is quick to make without being boring. You also have lots of personalization ideas by adding colorful stripes or using interesting yarns.

Crochet A Blanket Any Size

The Bradley Afghan is the perfect modern crochet blanket for any occasion and looks great in any size. You can also use whatever yarn you want. I recommend lighter yarns (DK weight or worsted weight) for baby blankets. I used chunky Hue + Me from Lion Brand for my throw-sized blanket and I love snuggling under it for movie nights.

To adjust the size of your blanket, use the following information:

• To adjust the width of your blanket, repeat Row 4 of the blanket. Row 4 is where you add width to the blanket, working in rows and increasing on both ends. Repeat Row 4 until you have the desired width of your blanket.
• To adjust the length of your blanket, repeat Row 41 of the blanket. Row 41 adds length to the blanket by decreasing at the beginning and end of each row. Be sure to measure the length along the center spine of the blanket to get an accurate measurement.

Understanding the Bradley Afghan Shape

Part of the fun of the Bradley Afghan is the shape. It begins as a triangle and grows to the width of the blanket. You then begin decreasing on the far ends of the blanket to start creating the rectangular shape. Once the center point reaches the length of the blanket, you’ll square off the corners. Use the diagram below as a visual when working on your blanket.

• Lion Brand Hue + Me yarn. 2 balls Bellini (A), 5 balls Desert (B), 3 balls Agave (C)
• 10mm crochet hook (like THIS ONE)
• Scissors
• Yarn needle
• Locking stitch marker

GAUGE

4″ = 9 rows x 10 stitches in (sc, ch 1) pattern. The ch-1 space counts as a stitch when measuring gauge.

FINISHED SIZE

50″ long x 45″ wide
