Unlock your MapleStory character’s true potential with this inner ability guide that provides comprehensive insights tailored to your specific class to increase damage for easier bossing and improved mobbing. With clear recommendations for different budgets and reroll luck you’ll find the optimal combination of stat lines to use in your progression. In general most MapleStory classes will prioritise first line inner abilities for boss damage, passive skills, attack speed or cooldown skip although farming focused characters may find greater value in Meso or drop rate with class specific options explored in detail on this page.
Drawing from my thousands of hours of exploring the Maple World with dozens of MapleStory classes, I’ll break down the inner ability system, explain how to unlock and upgrade it and reveal the best combinations for every class. With this knowledge, you can start optimising your inner ability while maximising your resources and time to secure the best inner ability for your class.
For players that want to know the math behind the inner ability system I recommend reading this guide alongside the MapleStory StrategyWiki page.

MapleStory Inner Ability Overview
The inner ability mechanic provides 3 lines of additional stats that are unique to each character on your MapleStory account. They are displayed on your stat window and can be re-rolled for honour experience which draws from a pool of options and different rarity values. From weakest to strongest the rarity values are epic, unique and legendary which have an increasing range of possible stat rolls that encourages players to aspire to legendary level inner abilities. Rerolling your inner ability changes any unlocked lines to different values or alters the stat entirely and has a chance of increasing the current ability rarity rank. Note that prior to October 2021 Patch v.227 inner ability ranks had a small chance to decrease in rank during this reroll process although as this has been removed the inner ability process is significantly easier.
The inner ability is considered a key piece of mid to late game progression for your main character or bossing mules given the potential to obtain enhanced damage and utility through this MapleStory mechanic. As mobbing and bossing is critical to your MapleStory progress many classes will opt for offensive inner abilities with priority given to boss damage, passive skills, attack speed or cooldown skip and supported with secondary choices such as critical, flat attack/magic attack, damage to inflicted and buff duration based on your class. Players can also prioritise for Meso or drop rate if they prefer or the specific character is farming focused for your account.
Epic rarity on all of your inner ability lines is generally a sufficient budget goal at first (prior to level 200) with players eventually wanting to upgrade their first line to a desirable unique and in time legendary before attempting to acquire a unique second line and third line with desired stats. To help with this players can lock individual stat lines that they do not want to reroll to preserve them at increasing honour experience costs and this recommended process is detailed in the how to get legendary inner ability portion of this page.
MapleStory Best Inner Ability For All Classes
The best inner ability is different for each MapleStory class due to the way their damage formula works and the need for specific boosts to maximise damage per second such as using inner abilities to reach their attack speed cap. Note that the first line in the below tables for each class type is always the most important to acquire particularly for passive skills level, attack speed or cooldown skip as these are only available on the legendary tier first line.
The other lines shown can be selected based on what stat you roll given the difference between the options is generally marginal. All values shown in the tables are the maximum possible legendary value for that stat.
For example using this inner ability guide table below if you want an Adele inner ability you’ll want to prioritise 20% cooldown skip followed by critical and flat attack. A Kanna inner ability in comparison benefits the most from 20% boss damage but can also benefit from critical or flat magic attack.

MapleStory How To Unlock Inner Ability
The MapleStory inner ability is available from level 50 once players accept “The Eye Opener” quest from the light bulb Maple Mailbox on the left of their screen (shown above). After unlocking this mechanic I recommend rolling for some useful epic tier options such as meso rate, drop rate, main stat, attack/magic attack based on your class as these will server as budget options as you continue to level up.
MapleStory How To Get Legendary Inner Ability
Your ultimate objective for the MapleStory inner ability is reaching legendary tier and then pairing that with as many optimal lines for your class as possible. Given the low odds to upgrade from unique and significant honour experience required to reach this point there are some common recommended methods to optimise this process noted below. To understand the resources and time commitment needed for these reroll strategies I recommend this inner ability simulator.
The primary method for acquiring a legendary inner ability involves the use of Miracle Circulators where possible to guarantee high rolls on your second or third lines as even when you have a legendary tier your second and third lines can be difficult to roll. While Miracle Circulators do not change these odds they guarantee that any line rolled will be at the maximum value possible. Miracle Circulators can be obtained from Fairy Bros (Day 18), the Cash Shop and events while Reboot players can purchase them directly for Mesos. MapleStory also occasionally has 50% off honour reroll events that should be used where possible although there have been stretches of years between these events in the past. These steps to maximise your inner ability should be followed in exact order:
- Use your honour experience (do not lock anything) until you rank up your first line to the legendary tier (green colour), at this stage the exact stat is not important. You can use Miracle Circulators for the jump from unique to legendary as it increases your rank up odds. However, given honour rerolls even at unique tier are fairly reasonable in cost and you can no longer go down in ranks when rerolling I suggest that most players opt for the cheaper honour experience path.
- Use Miracle Circulators until you get an ideal second line that is at least unique tier which is shown by the colour orange. If your first line rolls the perfect stat and value during this stage I recommend you strongly consider stopping depending on your access to Miracle Circulators. Some players will go for perfect second and third lines during this step which will result in stronger inner abilities but significantly longer time taken.
- Lock the perfect unique line (or lines) you have rolled for your MapleStory inner ability and roll your first line through honour experience to obtain your ideal stat and value.
- Any remaining honour experience can be used to try roll something useful on your third line (locking the other lines) if not already optimised although this will be significantly expensive and most players are unlikely to see more than two useful inner ability stat lines.
Alternatively for the average MapleStory player that doesn’t you can also opt to perform the following process which takes significantly less time to achieve although your character will be slightly weaker:
- Only use Miracle Circulators (or just roll with honour experience and locked tier) until you get an ideal top line and then roll the remaining lines with honour experience as you attempt to get anything useful.
MapleStory How To Earn Honour Experience Points
Inner ability uses the unique currency of honour experience that is earned for various activities in game that means players will earn the bulk of their points passively in MapleStory through regular gameplay by:
- Defeating monsters within your level range and picking up dropped medals
- Levelling up your character (from level 49 onwards)
- Defeating MapleStory bosses
- Purchasing the event specific Medal of Honour (usually in event stores)
- Purchasing Medal of Honours from Dojo and Ursus
- Claiming Day 6 from the Fairy Bros Daily Gift
- Finishing Blockbuster story content (such as Heroes of Maple)
- Finishing Monster Park on Thursdays (or Saturdays at a lower chance)
- Finishing Pollo and Fritto portals for bounty hunter pouches
