Valeria Eliz- abeth also lovingly Peterson Townsend Peterson, 80, called "Pete," by her choice in her later years, of Geneseo and a resident of Hillcrest Home, also formerly of Tampa, passed away after an extended illness of strokes and arthritis Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Geneseo. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday (today) at Vandemore Funeral Home. Rev.

Gene Meyers and Rev. Joe Kobernat will officiate. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Friends may call one hour prior to the services Thursday at funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Pathway Hospice, Hillcrest Nursing Home, First Baptist Church Sunday School or Geneseo Lions Club.

Pete was born on June 24, 1927, in Tampa, the daughter of Clifford Grady and Mary Ethel (Godwin) Townsend. She graduated from Hillsborough High School in Tampa and also attended a year of business school in Tampa. After a three year engagement, she married Franklin D. Peterson of Wausau, on February 24, 1946, in Tampa; he preceded her in death July 5, 2004. Franklin was stationed at the navel base in Tampa during World War II and then was shipped out to the Philippines part of that time.

Valeria loved not only taking care of her family over the years, but she also loved teaching Sunday School class for the children and Bible study; singing in the church choir; volunteering for Hospice and working with the "Share Program" of Geneseo, as well as other community services. She was an accomplished seamstress. She also loved gardening, canning and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Geneseo and was a former member of Green Rock Baptist Church. Her hobbies included crafts of all kinds, ceramics and she had an extensive butterfly collection.

She worked as a floral designer for Food Fair in Tampa and later for Trevor Hardware of Moline. She is survived by her children: Glenda D. (Donald Hennings, Martin G. (Russella Peterson and Sandra D. (Earl Hipkins; her grandchildren: Jeannette E.

Hennings, Franklin E. (Danielle Hennings, Cherie L. (Upal) Husain, Robin R. (Randy) Harvey, Tammy R. Wilson, Douglas D.

Ragan; step-grandchildren: Dawn Blaszczyk, Julie Blaszczyk, Charles Blaszczyk (Michelle Myers) and Kristie (Dan) Schomer; great-grandchildren: Josephine L. Hennings, Hunter L. Hennings, Quinton Peterson, Aisha Husain, Drake Harvey, Alex Harvey, David Wilson, Kyle Wilson, Nicholas Ragan and Noah Ragan; stepgreat-grandchildren: Shane Harvey, Christofer Harvey, Alexandra Byrd, Marie Blaszczyk, Zackery Blaszczyk, Nicholas Blaszczyk, Stefanie Blaszczyk, Dustin Blaszczyk, Cierra Blaszczyk, Alexandria Myers, Lindsey Myers and Alexia Schomer. She loved them all very much and was always there for them, each and every one, anytime her help was needed. She was Grandma Pete to them all.

Her special and close friends included Pastor Gene Meyers, Kathy Wagoner and Marge Klavohn (deceased), Dixie and Damion Cundiff and Edras Unash (deceased). Her one wish over the years was to have had a brother or sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford Grady and Mary Ethel Townsend of Tampa, a grandson, Franklin Dale Peterson II and her beloved husband Franklin Dale Peterson. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and eight brothers and I sisters.
