Can I eat in the UF library? ›

Food & Drink

The library allows food and drink within the library provided that it is not a distraction to other patrons. Library users must clean up after themselves, and: Discard trash in trashcans.

The seven libraries of the University of Florida form the largest academic information resource system in the state. The Libraries include specialized collections in science, health, architecture, history, languages, art and music.

We welcome visitors, guests and researchers, and all campus libraries are open to the public during general public visiting hours. The libraries' opening and closing times vary throughout the year due to observance of holidays and the University of Florida Academic Calendar.

*The General Public and alum must submit an application and fee (by check or money order only) to receive library privileges. Click on the respective affiliation type in the chart to view and submit the online application. To renew borrowing privileges, resubmit the application.

Online students have full access to all library services just like any other UF student. The Services for Distance Learning and UF Online page outlines how distance students can access and use library services and materials.

Food and drink are allowed in the UNF Library. Please be mindful of those around you by avoiding aromatic or messy foods. Trash should be placed in appropriate receptacles. Notify a library staff member immediately of any spills.

Marston Science Library

“I like that [Marston] is 24/7, and that it's open most of the time,” UF computer science junior Bradley Dantas said. “And it has quite a lot of space.” While the study rooms and technology offered at Marston are widely known, the wellness resources often fly under students' radars.

Library West primarily serves the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Journalism and Communications, and the Warrington College of Business Administration. It is the largest of the seven Smathers Libraries at UF.

1925 – The first section of what is now Smathers Library opened. The new library had a seating capacity of approximately 800 and a stack capacity of 200,000 volumes. 1931 – South Tower added in 1931.

The University Libraries at Florida State University welcomes visitors and researchers. Any person may visit the libraries and use print materials, licensed databases, government documents, and the FSU Library Catalog on-site.

Studying at the University of Florida

An SF ID is required for entrance. Students may also use the UF Libraries whenever they are open. An SF ID card may be required for entrance during evening and nighttime hours.

Visitor Policy

Visitors are welcome at the Thomas G. Carpenter Library and may use most resources and services free of charge. However, they must check in and present an official photo ID before entering the building.

Alumni of the University of Florida are eligible to join the recreation and fitness centers by paying the appropriate fees and by obtaining a Gator 1 Card. Alumni must purchase a membership to participate in Intramural Sports.

At your scheduled appointment time, you can select a room. If you are in a roommate group, the person with the earliest appointment time will select the room on behalf of the group.

It is fine to have hot or cold drinks in the library and cold food like sandwiches. We ask that you don't eat hot or smelly food in the library because this is likely to disturb others. We recommend that you take a break away from the library if you need a hot meal so that you can return to your studies refreshed.

Food and Drink Policy Statement

Food and drink are allowed in the Wimberley Library (Boca Campus), but please consume responsibly. The FAU Libraries must maintain an environment that is appropriate for the protection of library resources and conducive to study.

Food and beverages are allowed on the second and third floors of the Law Library, except in study rooms, with additional limitations set out below. Only water in spill proof containers are allowed in study rooms. Hot and cold beverages are allowed in containers with spill-proof lids or caps.

Use extra care when consuming food and drink while using computers, equipment, and library materials. Alert library staff to any spills or messes so that the area can be cleaned promptly. Food and open drink containers are not permitted within the John C. Hitt 5th Floor Quiet Study area.
