25 Adorable Giraffe Crochet Patterns - All Free (2024)

What’s tall and yellow with spots all over? That’s right! This week we are talking about giraffe crochet patterns. We’re giving you the inside scoop on all things crochet giraffes. There’s amigurumi giraffes, and other giraffe themed items too like bags, blankets, and more!

There are a lot of different giraffe crochet patterns out there but each one brings something special to the table. Some are small enough to fit in the palm of your hand and some are nearly a foot tall. Some sit up on their own and some are adorably floppy like a ragdoll. Some are more realistic and some are more whimsical. The only thing these designers might be even more creative about is all the different names they thought up that started with “G”!

If you have never crocheted amigurumi before, don’t sweat it. Giraffe crochet patterns might not be the easiest amigurumi projects to tackle because of all of the details, but a confident beginner can still tackle it. The nice thing about amigurumi is that it only uses single crochet stitches. Pay attention if an amigurumi pattern calls for double crochet stitches. It might actually be in UK terminology. Double crochet in UK terminology is the same as single crochet in US terminology, so keep that in mind!

If you love giraffes or if you know someone who does, then you are going to love all of these amazing giraffe crochet patterns! Scroll down and see them for yourself. Prepare to be inspired!

Rag Doll Giraffe

Looks like this giraffe is all tuckered out. Embroidering closed eyes on amigurumi is a little easier than open ones. Plus, it gives the stuffed animal a serene, sleeping look. You could try leaving the body of the giraffe unstuffed if you really want to amp up the ragdoll factor. There’s something so irresistibly adorable about floppy stuffies!

You aren’t limited to yellow and brown with these giraffe crochet patterns! The signature “horns” (fun fact: they are not actually horns since they are made from cartilage and not bone – they are called ossicones) on top of the giraffe’s head are a dead giveaway. So you can experiment with fun color combinations – like yellow and blue – and you’ll still be able to instantly tell that it’s a giraffe.

Jiffi the Giraffe

You may notice that many of these giraffe crochet patterns do not have very long necks. That’s probably because it would be very difficult to make a long neck that could still support the weight of the head without falling over. Luckily, short neck giraffes in crochet form are just as cute as their long necked inspirations in the wild.

Final Thoughts about Giraffe Crochet Patterns

Wow, I hope you’ve enoyed these free giraffe crochet patterns! I loved seeing all of the amazing designs and noticing what made each one special. A cute amigurumi giraffe would be a perfect gift. I made one for a friend’s baby one year and included an adorable giraffe board book, too!

I can’t get enough of these cute crochet giraffe patterns. I love how each designer turned this cute animal into a unique crochet giraffe pattern. If you have a friend who loves giraffes, or one who is planning a giraffe theme for baby’s nursery, one of these patterns would be a great project for you. (A stuffed giraffe is a great baby gift).

Any skill level can crochet a giraffe. Even beginner crocheters! You don’t have to be an advanced crocheter. What you will need to know how to do (or be able to learn) is the make the magic ring (also called the magic circle) as most amigurumi patterns begin with this technique, as well as how to single crochet in the round. Those are the basics you’ll need to know, but you can find more detailed instructions in the pattern you choose.

You’ll also need some yellow yarn, brown yarn (cotton or acrylic yarn are best), a hook size appropriate for your yarn (typically smaller than what is called for on the yarn label), a tapestry needle for weaving in ends and seaming if your pattern calls for separate pieces, black yarn for embroidery (or safety eyes), and some polyester fiberfill for stuffing. A stitch marker is also helpful for marking your first stitch.

I look forward to seeing you all again next week for another free crochet pattern round-up. I hope that you all have as much fun reading these posts as I do writing them! Do make sure and click follow so you can get notified when the next post is live.

Wait, one more thing! Don’t forget to save this page to your Pinterest board for crochet or add a bookmark in your browser. This is one free crochet pattern round-up that you will definitely be using again and again.
